Project #2

1.  Heaven on Earth, 2011, La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre,  New York, New York
http://lamama.org/ellen-stewart-theatre/heaven-on-earth/
“Heaven on Earth” is a collage play, written with Mee’s unique philosophy that all art is both received and created, so texts are taken from and inspired by other texts. It combs through history to reveal a quirky but simple realization: that hope is inextinguishable because in spite of the calamitous darkness when eras pass and civilizations collapse, happiness endures in the small pleasures of life.

2.  Git Along Lil Doggies, 2010, The Brick Theater, Laboratory Theater, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
http://www.laboratorytheater.org/shows/western.html
Laboratory Theater’s newest work is a meditative, cowboy dance-drama about the spiritual imprint of the windswept landscape of the American west. In an impressionistic narrative drawn from a variety of sources, two outlaws on the trail of an old adversary take work as jewel thieves for a washed up brothel madam. In a chance encounter with a traveling magician, they locate their enemy and conjure the violent forces of nature through sex-magic to take revenge.

3. Darwin in Malibu, 2011, Northside Theater Company, Olinder Theatre, San Jose CA
http://www.northsidetheatre.com/website/sneak.html
Malibu, California. The present. One hundred and twenty years after his death, Charles Darwin is hanging out in a beach house with a girl young enough to be his daughter. His peace is rudely disturbed when his old friend Thomas Huxley washes up on the beach closely followed by the Bishop of Oxford. Darwin suddenly finds himself entangled in an enthralling and thought-provoking comedy about God, science and plastic surgery.

4. Xanadu, 2011, Starlight Theater, Kansas City, MO
http://www.kcstarlight.com/broadway_shows/xanadu.aspx
A musical adventure on roller skates, the stage production of XANADU is an outlandishly enjoyable spoof of the 1980 cult movie classic starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. Get ready for disco balls, rainbows and an original score that features such pop-rock hits as "Magic," "Evil Woman" and “Suddenly."

5. Pinocchio, 2011, Deaf West Theater, North Hollywood, CA
http://www.deafwest.org/
Deaf West Theatre puts its own, unique spin on the classic story of a mischievous puppet who wishes to become a real, live boy.

6. Puppet Scrooge, 2010, The matrix Theater Company, Detroit MI
http://matrixtheatre.org/
In its fourth year at Matrix Theatre, Puppet Scrooge is getting slimmer and sleeker. Gone are the transitions from human interactions to puppet stagings. Dropping live actors and dialog presents some inherent obstacles to connection, but capable puppeteering work combined with a kid-friendly, focused, easily digestible story makes the sweeping changes pay off in this increasingly engaging show.

7. Like Water For Chocolate, 2011, Arena Stage Company, Washington WA
http://www.arenastage.org/shows-tickets/the-season/index-11-12.shtml
Prep your palate for a world premiere musical steeped in rich history and the magical realism of Mexican folktales.

8. Now You See Me, 2011, Manbites Dog Theater, Manbites Dog Theater Company, Durham NC
http://www.manbitesdogtheater.org/355/
Claire has a significant relationship with her TV: she talks and it answers her. Diagnosed with terminal cancer, she auditions to participate in a reality TV show so she can fight her Final Battle in front of millions of viewers. A satire about life, love, and death on TV.

9. A Catered Affair, 2011, Main Street Theater, Houston TX
http://www.mainstreettheater.com/mainstage/affair.html
This funny, poignant musical tells the story of a Bronx mother’s efforts to give her only daughter the elaborate wedding she never had – and her daughter never asked for –- as it explores our need for love and the true meaning of family.

10. Race, 2011, Philadelphia Theater Company, Philadelphia PA
http://www.philadelphiatheatrecompany.org/2011/race.html
Pulitzer Prize Award-winning playwright and Tony nominee David Mamet tackles the biggest four-letter word of all… RACE! Two lawyers, one black one white, find themselves defending a wealthy white executive against the charge of raping a young black woman. When a new legal assistant gets involved, emotions bubbling just beneath the surface explode!
